How Many Bottles of Wine Should You Bring to a Party

When you’ve been invited to a house party, you’ll need to decide upon how many bottles of wine to bring.

The simple answer is one, yet, you also need to consider a few other factors that may make you bring more than one bottle. Some of the factors that you will need to consider are:

- how well you know the host
- whether they are real wine enthusiasts
- how long the party is going to last
- whether it’s a single weeknight or the weekend.

So the longer the party and the day of the week will guide you in the right direction.

General Bring a Bottle Etiquette

You need to understand that the wine you bring to the party belongs to the host, and they will not necessarily serve it along with the meal. Because of this, you will need to ask the host if you can bring a wine bottle to pair up with the meal, which you can bring in chilled.

If you are the kind of person that loves to request more wine at a party or the ‘thirsty’ type, consider bringing in more bottles of wine, about two or three. Apparently bringing in an abundance of any gift to a party is a sure sign of generosity, and on the other hand, it allows the guests to try out more varieties of wine.

The other critical thing to consider in the wine that you bring is the cost. Even if the host loves to collect expensive bottles, you can still get good quality wine for a fraction of the price. Say for instance, a Gigondas from France for £15 would be ideal for a wine enthusiast. While on the other hand, you do not have to brag about how cheap or expensive the wine is, by indicating how much you spent on it.

Allow the guests to guess the cost of the wine by the label, but keep it moderate. If you are bringing only one bottle, you can buy a single pricey bottle, but if you are bringing in more than one bottle, you can purchase moderately priced ones to fit within your budget.

Whenever your glass has run dry and you’d like another glass, don’t suffer in silence. Just remark favourably on how good the wine is and no doubt the host will get the hint and top up your glass.
